Last week, just flew by in all the wrong ways! With the farmer's markets starting, we are experiencing a shift of schedules leading to the farm feeling short staffed. On top of that, the Huron Shores Transit, has also been short staffed, leading to bus cancellations, and making the commute more difficult for my staff. To top it all off, my dog was hit by a car on Friday night. He is doing well, but is unfortunately confined to a crate to recover from his broken leg. My apologies to anyone who tried to stop by Friday to find a chalkboard sign instead of a person.
But the good news is, we have managed to stay on top of the important things. I picked up my sweet potato slips on Saturday, I will root them in the greenhouse and plant them out in the field in the next week or so. I managed to get the seeding done in the field, before we got this rain, so that means we will have a continuous crop of greens. And I also got some beans and pea seeds in the ground, hopefully my new Earthway seeder does a good job of planting them!
This week, we have a ton of planting out of crops in the field to do. We also need to cut and put row cover on the crops in the field, move irrigation line, and clean up and plant into the greenhouse. I'm confident that with the whole team back this week, we can make good progress!
