The weather this year has been spectacular! Every week at the market, when people ask me if I am cold, I think about all the years we spent standing out in the rain, the snow, the wind, and the cold. The calm sunny days have been a joy to work outside in.
Last week was the first of the three extra Forest Farmers' Markets, and it was a great market day. There are two more chances to visit us on King St in Forest on Friday mornings! We have a great group of enthusiastic, local, farmers and artisans set up there. This year's market has introduced me to some kind and passionate people that I love to see every week.
The garden is still growing! There is lots of spinach, lettuce, arugula, and baby kale available! And while my selection of acorn and butternut squash is dwindling, I still have lots of spaghetti, hubbard, and kombocha available. There's still lots of garlic available, and it is not too late to plant if you want (I haven't planted mine yet), in fact, I have planted into December before without difficulty. I pulled the tomato plants out of my greenhouse this past weekend, I am planning on replanting greens in there today for a December harvest. So the last of my tomatoes will be available this week and maybe next week, I depends on what happens to the green ones I harvested before pulling the plants. But I will continue to carry the Exeter hothouse tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. The microgreens are growing slower, but I am still planting them every week. I've adjusted the schedule to give them two more days to hopefully deal with the shorter days. Plus there are salad turnips, and radishes galore, and beautiful bok choi, I just started harvesting a new patch and it is fantastic!
